It's not their job to pass judgment, simply state facts. That's why we have a justice system--to allow both sides of a story to come out; then an impartial judgment can be made. If only one sides is presented (especially with prejudice) it cannot be trusted. Even if the church decided to not "officially" meet with the reporter, did they attempt to get a balanced perspective from another source?

The issue of compensation for non-profit leaders is a little tricky. I've done some research on this topic (as I serve on the board of directors for a non-profit) and have found that the leaders of major non-profit organizations, who have national influence and manage large operating budgets, can often be substantial (as some might judge). But then again, they are the leaders of major organizations that impact large numbers of people and influence our culture in significant ways. Why should their contribution be viewed as less valuable than a corporate CEO?

The jet issue is also a little tricky, but if you take the amount of time, resource and value that are all saved by having a private aircraft available, sometimes it might just make more financial sense than traveling the consumer airlines. Again, more information and understanding are needed here.

Accountability is key, and people (and their financial contributions) should never be taken for granted or advantage of. But sometimes there is more to the story than what first appears.

Just my humble thoughts.

Good points Kirk. It's costly in both the financial sense, but also it uses the screens, which could be powerful tools for other things.

The reason we do it is summed up in one word--emotion. Initially our room was small enough that people could easily see the speaker, but the emotion on his face, was more obvious if you had less than perfect vision. Now (with a 2400 seat venue) it's necessary to make out any emotion on faces at all. IMAG makes all seats good. In HD, I prefer to watch the screen than the live people (the colors are more vibrant).

Lives and eternities ride on people hearing and seeing clearly. Last Sunday over 100 changed. The "seamless" approach to not drawing attention to what you are doing as a leader & yet to encourage the entire congregation to lose themselves in worship of our Most Worthy God is SO important! It is hard on everyone when stuff gets in the way. What do you think of literally conducting a "ordination" of the equipment & it's operators? I am studying through Leviticus - specifically chapter 8 when Moses "anoints" all the tabernacle equipment & ministers.
